Counselor's Corner

Hi, my name is Karen Hill and I am the School Adjustment Counselor at Stanley M. Koziol Elementary School. My job is to work with students, parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and staff to support students in their transition to elementary school, helping to create a solid foundation for their learning.

As a school adjustment counselor, I facilitate weekly social skills lunch bunch groups, deliver the Second Step Social skills curriculum weekly to all kindergarten students, meet with small groups of children to problem solve different social situations, and work with students individually who may be experiencing grief, loss, difficulties with self-regulation skills, and family issues. I am also available to meet with teachers and parents to support student learning. In addition, I am the coordinator of the 504 program and a resource for community referrals.

Creating a supportive learning environment:

At SMK we work collaboratively with students and families to create a learning environment that fosters growth and development encouraging students to reach their full potential as young learners.

Students begin their day by making a pledge to uphold the pillars of good character at school.

Student of the Month:

Students are introduced to character traits throughout the school year and recognized for upholding them on a monthly basis.
